Calling For Cool Submissions

Note: A contest is running for the winter issue. See contest tab.

COMING UP: Winter contest starts November 1, 2015. UPDATE: I have just been made aware that the contest page has been missing this entire month of November! I will extend the deadline until December 10, 2015. You can find the contest under the "contest" tab.

NOTE: If your submission is not winter-related, please send it elsewhere. This magazine promotes seasonal beauty only. Thank you.
---------------------------------

I am looking forward to publishing this cool but warm issue. The following quotes express my sentiments about the winter season.

As winter approaches - bringing cold weather and family drama - we crave page-turners, books made for long nights and tryptophan-induced sloth. ~Sarah MacLean
"I love the scents of winter! For me, it's all about the feeling you get when you smell pumpkin spice, cinnamon, nutmeg, gingerbread and spruce." ~Taylor Swift
“A single poem
is worth a hundred
cozy winter nights
kind words
and healed wounds.”
~ Sanober Khan
Winter is the season's finale. It's a time of books and page-turners, snowflakes and fireplaces, gifts and Christmas sentiments. Whether you submit poetry, haiku, fiction, nonfiction, or recipes, show me specifics. Fill the submission with the season's senses.

Halcyon Needs Your Colorful Submissions

NOTE: If your submission is not autumn-related, please send it elsewhere! Lately, I've been receiving poetry that has nothing to do with the seasons. This magazine promotes seasonal beauty only. Thank you.
---------------------------------

I am looking forward to this colorful issue. The content and accompanying images made the summer edition beautiful. But I anticipate the fall publication will be breathtaking! The following quotes express my sentiments about the autumn season.
“I'm so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.” ― L.M. Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables
“Fall has always been my favorite season. The time when everything bursts with its last beauty, as if nature had been saving up all year for the grand finale.” ― Lauren DeStefano, Wither
The grand finale. How true. It's hard to imagine a world without seeing the autumn palette. Whether you submit poetry, haiku, fiction, nonfiction, or recipes, show me specifics. Fill the submission with the season's senses.

Keywords and concepts to jump start ideas for the fall issue: maple leaf, apples, thanksgiving, change, harvest (effects of doing/saying good things), horn of plenty, dialogue between the leaves and the sun, lengthening days, brown fields, good things coming to an end, and preparation.

Calling for summer submissions

* NEW: Now accepting photo submissions! Are you a photographer? Would you like to showcase your seasonal work in Halcyon? Send your beauties in an email. See Guidelines for details.

** Do you have a publication that needs submissions? Email me with a blurb and link to monique.editor[at]gmail.com, and I'll put it online and in the magazine.

*** The 2015 summer edition of Halcyon will have a surprise for readers. Visit the website on June 21, 2015 to see what it is!

---------------------------

The reading schedule for the upcoming summer issue is open!

I received lots of compliments about the content in the 2015 spring publication. I can't wait to see what literary talents surface for the July issue.

The summer season defines the meaning of halcyon: relaxing, tranquil, peaceful times. I'm looking for hazy lazy summer-related submissions. When the reader goes through the magazine, I want their blood pressure, heart rate, and breathing to slow down! Show it through stories, poems, essays, non-fiction, recipes, how-to's, photos, and fillers. See the 'Submit' tab for guidelines.

Calling for spring submissions

Spring is coming! I am looking forward to some warmth and color. That's where the writers come in--writers who can express the warmth and life of spring through haiku, poetry, fiction, nonfiction, recipes and quotes. Acceptable themes include St Patricks Day, Easter, Mother's Day, Father's Day, forgiveness, new love, and birth. Check out the writers guidelines here.
